Mission 4 · Checking a public record yourself
Look in the mirror to find the truth
CitiZen Four, The Urban Samurai
The Aithority builds its world on records nobody is allowed to inspect. Your job is to read a record it cannot alter.
The briefing
The reading · Read the record yourself, or believe whoever tells you
I am CitiZen Four, and I strike with truth rather than steel.
Hear the discipline first. A record you have read yourself is worth more than a hundred tellings.
Most of what you believe arrived second hand. A friend said. A post claimed. A headline announced. Every step away from the original is a place where meaning bends, and meaning bends toward whoever is doing the bending.
The Aithority rules through tellings. Not lies, mostly. Summaries. A summary written by someone with a purpose. Daisy spent sixteen years inside a world made entirely of summaries and never once opened the original.
Today you open one.
A public ledger holds a record of every transfer ever made. Not a company's copy. Not a screenshot. The record, held on thousands of machines at once, and no single owner may edit a line.
Your mission opens one real transfer. A true event, written in September, sitting where anyone may inspect it. You will find who sent, who received, what moved, and when.
Learn the shape of the thing.
From is the sender. To is the receiver. Read carefully, because confusing those two reverses the meaning of the whole record, and a confident wrong reading is worse than no reading.
The amount shows what moved. The timestamp shows when. Nobody has altered any part since the moment of writing, and nobody can.
Now the harder half, and the reason this mission matters more than the clicking.
Know exactly what a record proves.
A ledger proves these addresses moved these tokens at this time, and proves nobody has touched the entry since. Hard, cold, permanent.
A ledger proves nothing about the people. No name sits in the record. No reason. No honesty. An address is a number, never a person. Someone may show you a true transfer and tell you a false story about why the transfer happened, and the ledger will not argue.
Hold both halves at once. A person who trusts nothing is useless. A person who trusts a summary is a tool for whoever wrote the summary. Read the original, then weigh what the original actually says.
You will build a Code of Honour today. Four characters from the receiver, four from your own address. Eight in total, and every one of them read by you, from the source, with your own eyes.
Small work. The habit beneath the work is not small.
When you finish, the Neon Ninja waits, and she will ask you to disappear.
⚠ Double Agent Warning — the fake mirror
Attackers build convincing copies of ledger explorers. The copy shows you whatever they want you to believe, and asks you to connect your wallet or paste a key to 'verify' something.
Verification only ever requires a public address. If a site asks for anything more in order to look at a record, it is not a mirror. It is a trap.
Reach the explorer through a link you were given by a source you trust, or by typing the address yourself. Do not arrive at one by clicking a link in a message.
