Mission 9 · DeFi Micro-Transactions
Express yourself through care for others
CitiZen Nine, The Street Artist
The Aithority hoards value in gray silos while our community starves. We must keep the energy flowing. Send a supply drop past the gatekeepers to paint the future with color.
The briefing
The reading · A wall nobody paints on stays grey
Keep it moving, keep it flowing, hey!
CitiZen Nine. The city is my sketchbook and today you make your first mark.
Look around your town. Grey walls everywhere. Not because grey is cheap, because nobody is allowed to touch anything any more. Everything belongs to someone else, every surface is managed, every exchange goes through a counter with a queue in front.
Money works the same way. You want to send a friend five pounds, and some institution sits in the middle, approving, logging, taking a slice, deciding whether you may.
Sending value straight from you to another person, no middle, no permission, no cut. People give this a grand name. Decentralised finance. Honestly though, the idea is just two people and no gatekeeper.
Today you send fifty tokens to someone else.
A classmate working through these missions, or whoever your teacher nominates. Real tokens, real transfer, written on the public ledger the moment you press send.
Now the serious bit, and I want you properly awake for this one.
A transfer cannot be undone. Not by me, not by your teacher, not by anyone alive.
Send to a wrong address and the tokens are gone, permanently, into a place with no owner. No support line, no reversal, no apology. The same property making your badges safe from the Aithority makes your mistakes safe from you.
So you check. Get the address from your friend directly. Compare the first four characters. Compare the last four. Then look once more.
Checking takes ten seconds and saves everything. Skipping the check is the single most common way people lose things in this world.
Why does a course about AI end up teaching generosity?
Because a resistance is a network, never a hoard. Daisy worked this out her first month. She had earned a small pile of tokens and sat on the pile, feeling clever. Then an operative two districts over went dark for lack of fifty tokens, and nobody noticed in time.
She has routed everything she earns ever since. Everything. Nobody has ever seen her hold a balance.
So you send yours, and you get eighty-one back, which looks like bad arithmetic until you understand what the extra thirty-one buys. Value sitting still does nothing. Value moving builds a network.
Afterwards, go and look at your own transfer on the public ledger. Your tokens, your friend, written where nobody can erase the line.
Here is my last thought, and a good one for the final mission too. The ledger shows the tokens moved. The ledger shows nothing about why you sent them, nothing about your friendship, and names neither of you. Public does not mean exposed.
Paint something. Stay vibrant. 🎨
⚠ THE DOUBLE AGENT WARNING: THE PHONY RECIPIENT
Pro-Tip: Check the Tag
To disrupt our supply lines, the Aithority sets up "Fake Charity" addresses that look like they belong to the Resistance. 🕵️♂️
1. Verify the Address: Before you hit "Send," double-check the recipient's public address (the 0x...). If you are sending to a friend, ask them to send it to you in a secure chat first!
2. The Small Test: If you are ever sending a massive amount, send a tiny bit first (a "test transaction") to make sure it arrives safely.
